Computer Repair Advice: Booting When it Won't
It's a question Fort Lauderdale computer repair companies get all the time - how do you find (or create) an emergency boot-up disc so you are prepared in the unfortunate event that Windows becomes unbootable?
Sadly for South Florida computer repair seekers, the days when Windows came with a program designed to create a useful emergency boot floppy are ancient history. And said disks wouldn't help with XP or Vista - even if you had a floppy drive.
But you can try this. First, Ft. Lauderdale computer repair experts say, boot from one of the discs that came with the computer, and take a look at the menus (without selecting anything that might wipe the drive).
What are you looking for here? Emergency utilities.
You should be in pretty good shape if you can get your hands on a full Windows XP or Windows Vista DVD. Both of these handy discs feature some useful tools and tips for both diagnosing and repairing a PC that is down for the count.
If you don't own one of these, see if you can find one you can borrow. A borrowed disc is not recommended to install Windows, but if it has the same version of Windows as your computer, you can utilize its tools as far as your Fort Lauderdale computer repair needs are concerned.
If all else fails, or you aren't sure how to proceed, consult your Broward County or Ft. Lauderdale computer repair service. But try this...
- To try to boot from an XP CD, press R at the 'Welcome to Setup' screen to see the Recovery Console, which should appear as a DOS-like command-line environment with a number of useful utilities.
- If you're trying to boot from a Windows Vista DVD, click "Repair your Computer" to open the System Recover program. There you should find your options to automatically fix boot problems, restore a hard drive from an image backup, diagnose memory, or perform a full system restore.
