Key Windows, Mac OS Network Management Software Now Supporting Linux
The network management software for Mac OS X and Windows now supports Linux, according to an article today in MacWorld.
The company, FileWave, has announced support for the Fedora-based Red Hat Linux with its Server and Booster software.
FileWave helps network administrators:
-- Manage and distribute software across their networks by distributing applications, running installers locally, create customized installation packages and more.
-- Easily apply packages as well as updates, and modify individual files on the user workstation.
-- Roll back application changes if problems or other issues that need to be addressed happen to be discovered.
-- Schedule distributions to be delivered or installed at specific times to help manage network load and workstation use.
-- Self-heal, or restore changes that may have been undone to make sure software distributions are applied consistently.
The software employes a client/server architecture and utilizes a "pull" method to manage software distribution.
FileWave has long supported Windows as a client environment, but up until this recent development required a Mac for administration.
This announcement marks the first time the administration software can operate on Linux, and FileWave has indicated that Linux distributions may be supported based on demand going forward as well.
Fort Lauderdale computer repair agencies may see this trend continue as we near the end of this decade and approach the next.
