New Ubuntu Linux Server is Business-Oriented
A commercial sponsor of Ubuntu is readying to release Ubuntu Server Edition 9.04 along with the new Ubuntu Desktop Edition and the Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
That's obviously great news for Linux fans, but Canonical's planned move could also be a boon to business, according to Fort Lauderdale computer repair experts.
The new Ubuntu Server does all the usual Linux server edge jobs - Web and mail services - and common line of business jobs like file and print. But it goes farther.
Where this may really excel, Boca Raton computer repair professionals say, is in its inclusion of improved virtualization with the new version of KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) and easier integration with Microsoft AD (Active Directory).
Numbers of local and national Linux experts say the new Ubuntu, both on the server and the desktop side, will now work and play better with AD.
Apparently, Ubuntu will now be capable of pulling off such a trick because it will be incorporating Likewise Open and Samba 3.3 support.
Likewise Open enables both Ubuntu servers and desktops to AD domains and forests with a single sign-on that works both for the AD and the Linux side of a network.
Ubuntu 9.04 also has some interesting virtualization improvements that make this announcement potentially even more groundbreaking - or at least eye-opening.
