Online Computer Support: A Student Must-Have?
Due to the recession, spending in most "back-to-school" categories is expected to decrease in 2009. However, spending on electronics is still gaining momentum.
A recent poll reported an increase of 11 percent of electronic purchases for back to school compared to last year. Moreover, this is still expected to increase more by 25 percent, as laptops have become a requirement for many colleges.
A company called BluePhone, which bills itself as offering remote computer support services, said that in such a situation, online consumer support is a must have for students.
Using remote-desktop technology to diagnose and repair issues, it offers 24/7 technical support, advice and troubleshooting for a wide range of gadgets.
This includes PCs and Macs, as well as smart phones, MP3 players and digital cameras. Whatever it is, they can get it functioning with just a phone call.
Of course, it's hard to believe that all its technicians are certified to resolve nearly any Ft. Lauderdale computer repair problem that may arise.
You also have to purchase a membership to even be eligible, so if no tech problem or confusing issue comes up, you are paying for services you're not using.
But in a pinch, it may be worth a shot under the circumstances.
Calls can be ad hoc or scheduled, and members can communicate with their personal computer repair technicians via email, chat and phone 24/7.
The company’s online consumer tech support memberships is not only limited to college-aged students, but is also extended to high school students.
Guess it's like AAA for computers and other gizmos.
