Advances in Remote Computer, Network Support
A telecommunications giant is upgrading its remote PC repair service to allow technicians to resolve issues without a customer fully booting a computer.
According to technicians from AT&T's Tech Support 360 service, customers' PC problems could only be fixed in the past when the operating system was loaded and a browser session was running. But that is apparently going to change.
PC problems will now be able to be solved even if the system can't be booted due to hardware problems or overall OS failure, Fort Lauderdale computer repair experts say.
The capability allows technicians to fix more PC problems than previously possible, including hardware-level issues like corrupted BIOS, to use one example.
Personnel can now reset system passwords, repair and update network card drivers, and remove spyware and malware more effectively, according to the company.
In order for the remote computer services to be initiated, users need to enter specific keystroke sequence to connect the failed PC online with the technician.
To make this happen, AT&T is adopting Intel's Remote PC Assist Technology - a part of Intel's vPro hardware and software management - for the new services.
AT&T's Tech Support 360 was instituted to remotely solve many PC problems such as software, hardware and peripheral issues, for small-to-medium businesses.
It boasts the ability to troubleshoot Windows issues and hardware problems like faulty hard drives and wireless configurations.
There are certain limitations attached to AT&T's upgraded service, it is worth noting. Pre-boot service won't work on PCs with chips from Advanced Micro Devices.
The service also won't work on Apple's Mac systems.
