A soft economy has resulted in sagging sales over the past few months for the professionals who make on-site service calls and perform repairs.
In addition to in person computer repair, the technicians are called upon to remove viruses, spyware and custom-build PCs for walk-in customers at their storefronts.
Some commercial customers have closed, while other business clients and some cost-conscious residential customers have been foregoing needed maintenance.
Those are two big reasons for the slowdown, according to several local providers of computer repair in Ft. Lauderdale and throughout South Florida.
For some of these businesses, this summer's decline in Ft. Lauderdale computer repair business is the continuation of a trend that began even earlier.
The economic downturn first began to affect the industry in 2007.
Around that time, many property management and real estate customers who comprised a major segment of commercial client bases began to disappear.
The trickle-down effect of economic sluggishness had begun.
As a result, while individual computer repair needs remain high, gross revenues are off by as much as 30 percent from 2008 levels for many companies.
